National Aviation Day was August 19th and to mark the special occasion, I recently submitted a piece to our county on the importance of our local airport. I thought this piece might be nice to share with others that love aviation as much as we do.
August 19th is National Aviation Day and you don’t have to be a pilot or even flying on a plane to appreciate the impact that aviation has – not only on our nation, but right in your local community.
For every plane that lands at your airport, dollars are invested into our community; your airport is a major driver of the local economy, providing a platform for jobs.
When most people think about an airport, they think about commercial flights and rightly so. But truth be told, that’s just one piece of the role our airports play. The presence of a local airport in your community means that patients waiting for organ transplants get a second chance at life, thanks to the speed of medical transport. It means packages you ship via FedEx make it to your business contacts that much faster; it means increased tourism, which leads to boosting your economy, which leads to more jobs in our region and more opportunities for all of us.
When you use the services of your local airport, you’re helping to keep local dollars local. You’re contributing to something much larger than a convenient flight for a family vacation, or a faster business trip. The real reason an airport exists goes beyond transporting people and goods to and from our region. It exists to connect people to one another, to make business happen faster, and to provide a place – and a means – for industry to thrive. So when you use your local airport, you’re helping your airport help the community.
To us, National Aviation Day means more than just appreciating the wonder of flight; it means appreciating all those who have helped our airports take off!
